Police: Arrests Expected in Attack on Alabama Teen

The mother of an Alabama high school student says her 17-year-old son was attacked and badly beaten after standing up for police.

Brandi Allen tells WBRC-TV that son Brian Ogle responded to students wearing Black Lives Matter T-shirts at Sylacauga High School with “Blue lives matter,” a defense of police officers. Ogle also posted pro-police items on Facebook.

Police Chief Kelley Johnson says the youth was beaten Friday in what appears to be a planned incident after a high school football game. The incident occurred in a store parking lot.

Johnson says in a written statement that police expect to make arrests, but he says it’s unclear whether the attack will be prosecuted as a hate crime.

Ogle is hospitalized in Birmingham with serious injuries including a fractured skull.
